When it comes to cleaning, there’s a lot of not-so-great information available online. Websites and social media sites like Pinterest offer many unique cleaning and odour eliminating tips, but a lot of these simply don’t work. Let’s take a look at five popular Pinterest fails and cleaning tips.

Don’t bleach everything. Bleach is a great disinfect, but not a good cleaner. After mixing bleach with water, the mixture still doesn’t clean any better than water. Additionally, bleach fumes can be highly irritating and even trigger asthmatic reactions. Play it safe when using bleach, and never mix it with other cleaning products.

Vinegar doesn’t disinfect. Thinking of using vinegar as a cleaner in your home? Here’s a word of warning- vinegar is not a registered disinfectant! We recommend a multi-purpose cleaner and disinfectant, like OdoBan Ready-to-Use spray, to make sure you’re killing germs and bacteria.

Follow label directions. We get it. Following the directions on your cleaners is boring, right? And who has time to read the back of the bottle? But following the directions can help you get the most out of your products, and make sure you’re using them the right way. Particularly when using concentrated cleaning products, like OdoBan Multi-Purpose concentrate, always follow the directions on the label for making use solutions. More is not always better! Water is an essential part of the formula, and the product is extensively tested at different dilutions to work best for certain applications.

Fresh fruit = fresh air? Some Pinterest articles recommend using fresh fruit as an odour eliminating solution for your home, car, or other areas. That’s not a good idea! Leaving fruit out in hot spaces (like your car during the summer) can quickly turn into a science experiment gone wrong. Instead, eliminate odours at their source with OdoBan products.

Toilet brushes need cleaning, too! Cleaning your toilet bowl? Don’t stick the toilet brush right back in that holder! Dark, damp toilet brush holders are the perfect environment for bacteria to grow. These bacteria cause all kinds of odours and defeat the purpose of cleaning your bathroom in the first place! Instead, shake out the water from the brush, allow the brush to dry (we recommend resting it on the rim of the toilet), and then spray down the brush with a disinfectant and odour eliminator like OdoBan Ready-to-Use spray.
